Scotland comfortably achieved all three points at home against Gibraltar, putting them on the same points as defending World Champions, Germany.

As predicted, Scotland started the better of the two teams as Andrew Robertson crossed a sweet ball to Steven Fletcher who flicked the ball into the arms of Gibraltar goalkeeper, Jamie Robba.

Although Robba was comfortable with the save, he showed the complete opposite when he miss-hit a kick out from a simple pass back for a corner. The 'keeper blamed the turf, but it would have heightened the confidence of the Scotland attackers.

However, it was at the other end that Scotland got the biggest scare. Joseph Chipolina hit a cross into the box which skewed off the crossbar, giving David Marshall a dramatic wake-up call.

Not long after, Scotland were in-front through a Shaun Maloney penalty. The scorer won the penalty as he forced Robba to foul him needlessly as the ball was destined to go out of play. Maloney calmly placed the ball in the bottom left corner, beating Robba who guessed correctly.

What was to happen next wasn't meant to be on the script - Gibraltar equalised to level the scoring. Lee Casciaro was in acres of space down the right wing and a perfectly weighted pass allowed him to set himself and stick the ball under Marshall's legs into the far corner.

The goal stunned Hampden and not a peep was heard apart from the distant cheers of the Gibraltar faithful who were jubilant, celebrating the nation's first competitive goal. Scotland battled on to try and regain the lead and were successful as Fletcher scored his first goal in six years for his country. Ikechi Anya crossed into the danger area and Fletcher showed desire to head the ball by Robbo's bottom right post.

The game got more comfortable for Scotland when they increased their lead through another Maloney penalty. This time it was Steven Naismith who was bundled over by Casciaro after a passage of attractive football by the Scots. There was a case of deja vu as Maloney stuck to the same position successfully with Robba guessing right. The next Scotland goal involved Anya again as he passed to Naismith in the box who used his left foot to stick the ball under Robba.

In the second-half Gibraltar had the first chance as Chipolina mustered a powerful strike from the edge of the penalty area. The early Gibraltar pressure was quickly dissolved by Scotland as Fletcher got his next goal of the game. Substitute Jordan Rhodes, teed up his strike partner who duly obliged by heading the ball down to Robba's right post unchallenged.

The final goal completed the hat-trick for Fletcher as he picked the ball up just inside the box and clipped the ball to the far post leaving the keeper helpless. The hat-trick was Scotland's first in 46 years, Fletcher joined ex-Rangers man, Colin Stein, in the history books.

The win sets up Gordon Strachan's men as they go to Dublin for a vital match in June against the Republic of Ireland which could make or break the Tartan Army's Euro 2016 campaign.
