Álvaro Morata's second-half equaliser sent Juventus through to the UEFA Champions League final as they drew 1-1 with Real Madrid, clinching a 3-2 semi final aggregate win over the competition's current holders.

Madrid looked the better side throughout the first half and were expected to win comfortably, especially after Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring from the penalty spot after 20 minutes. However, some superb defending from Juventus combined with a clinical finish from Morata ensured that the Italian side qualified for the final.

Neither side held back in terms of starting the game on the front foot, with Gareth Bale seeing a header fly narrowly over the bar with just over a minute gone. That was followed up by Ronaldo's first attempt of the night, a powerful set piece sent just too high to trouble Gianluigi Buffon.

At the other end, Artuto Vidal forced Iker Casillas into an early save with a left-footed drive that seemed destined for the bottom right hand corner before Casillas got a strong glove to it.

Madrid then again went close as Ronaldo almost reached an excellent cross from the fit again Karim Benzema, making his first start in seven games for Los Blancos. Ronaldo couldn't quite reach the cross, and then Bale saw his curling effort saved by Buffon, but it didn't matter as James Rodriguez won a penalty just one minute later.

As he surged into the box, James found himself cut across by Juve defender Giorgio Chiellini, who knocked the Columbian's calf, bringing him down. Ronaldo was of course the man who stepped up to take it, slamming the ball down the middle of the goal to open the scoring.

Going a goal down meant that Juventus would have to score in order to progress, however it was the hosts who looked more like scoring the second goal of the game as the first-half resumed. Sergio Ramos forced a block as he acrobatically shot with an overhead kick from a ball in, before Buffon expertly held a goalbound Toni Kroos header.

Despite these opportunities coming as Madrid dominated proceedings, the best chance of the half came on the counter attack. As the clock ran past the 43rd minute, the home side raced away on the counter attack as Bale's pass to Ronaldo sent the winger free down the left. Taking the ball in his stride, Ronaldo couldn't quite keep his shot narrow enough to get it on target, as the ball crashed into the side netting.

Juventus were kept waiting on the pitch for quite some time by Madrid as they looked to begin the second-half. By the time the hosts arrived back out at the Bernebau, there had been two more minutes than the 15 allocated for half time.

Whatever ploy Madrid were trying to implement by watiting so long, it didn't have the desired affect as the Old Lady pegged them back into their own area at the start of the second period. Morata almost found himself in on goal thanks to Vidal's pass, only for Casillas to rush out and clear. A goal wouldn't have counted anyway, as he was flagged offside.

The former Madrid striker won't have been too disappointed though, as he scored to level up the game just six minutes later. Madrid thought they had cleared the ball from a Juventus attack, only for it to be launched back into the area. Paul Pogba, impressive all night, used his power to rise highest and nod the ball back across goal. It bounced perfectly into Morata's path, and he hammered a low shot into the goal.

Fully in the knowledge that they now needed a goal not to qualify, but just to send the game into extra time, Madrid continued to press under increasing pressure from the home crowd. Bale sent a long range shot wide, before a dipping effort from James landed on the top of the net.

The kitchen sink was being thrown by Real, as Bale again came close with a header before Ronaldo headed over from a corner, but Juventus played their defesive game brilliantly in the final stages, as we know Italian teams can do.

Javier Hernandez was sent on in place of Benzema as the pressure on Juve's goal grew, but Madrid's night was perhaps summed up when Casillas went to take a throw in stoppage time, only to drop the ball in hesitation, with referee Eriksson giving a foul throw.

In the end, the Old Lady of Juventus held on superbly to keep the score at one all, 3-2 two on aggregate, to clinch progression to the UEFA Champions League final, where they will meet Barcelona.
