Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi is set to sign a one-year extension until 2020, according to L'Equipe.

The Belgian striker is one of the most in-demand players in Europe at the moment, and a whole host of clubs are reportedly after the 22-year-old’s signature.

Arsenal, Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Tottenham have all been linked with Batshuayi over the past few weeks, and Marseille are keen to keep hold of their star striker until at least the summer.

If Batshuayi does sign a new contract extension with Les Phocéens, his price might rise upwards of £30 million, which may put off some pursuers such as Newcastle and Crystal Palace.

Marseille manager, Michel, has also stated that he will not be letting Batshuayi leave in the winter, saying, "You want to kill me! I don't think about Michy leaving," "If we're going to sign anyone it will be an addition, not a replacement."

Batshuayi vital to any possible Marseille success

Marseille lost striker Andre-Pierre Gignac to Mexican side Tigres in the summer of 2015, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise as Batshuayi was allowed to take centre stage for Marseille.

The former Standard Liege striker has scored 11 goals this season in the league, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic being the only player to score more than Batshuayi this season.

Despite Batshuayi’s impressive form, Marseille themselves have had a poor season. Former OM manager Marcelo Bielsa left the club just one game into the 2015/16 season, citing a lack of trust with the club's management, who Bielsa said have reneged on a previously agreed contract extension.

Marseille’s troubles behind the scenes have emulated what has happened on the pitch for the club, poor results and the emergence of Angers and Caen have seen both Marseille and Lyon fall into the abyss of mid-table, but Batshuayi could be the player that leads Marseille out of the darkness.
