Poland have won their first ever game at the European Championships after Milik scored five minutes into the second half. Northern Ireland battled hard to get an equaliser but their efforts were in vain and they will now go on to play Ukraine on Thursday.

86' - Davis should have had an equaliser for Northern Ireland. A well worked free kick from Northenr Ireland finds Davis in space in the box but the midfielder fell and missed his kick. Huge let off for Poland.
81' - Grosicki almost makes an immediate impact as he unleashes a fierce shot but it is blocked behind for a corner by the Northern Ireland defence.
80' - Poland substitution: Blaszczykowski is replaced by Grosicki.

75' - Maczynski finds space at the edge of the Northern Ireland box for Poland but he put his shot well over the bar.
71' - Washington does really well for Northern Ireland as he takes on two Polish defenders and runs into the box but Szczesny comes out to stop the striker from scoring an equaliser.
69' - Craig Cathcart receives a yellow card for a late foul on Lewandowksi.
68' - Blaszczykowski hits a shot inside the Northern Ireland box but drags it across the goal.
66' - Northern Ireland substitution: Shane Ferguson is replaced by Connor Washington.
65' - Kapustka receives a yellow card for stopping a Northern Ireland counter.
61' - Poland almost make it two but a last ditch tackle from Connor McLaughlin stops Kapustka from stroking the ball home.
51' - Goal for Poland! Milik has opened the scoring for the Poles. A great move down the down the right finds Blasszczykowski who plays a lovely cut back to Milik who stroked the ball in past McGovern. Big set back for Northern Ireland to concede so early in the second half.

It has been a half full of dominance by Poland but Northern Ireland have defended really well with Milik having the only one real great chance of the game. 39' - What a save from McGovern! Northern Ireland fail to clear a corner and it goes to Kapustka who unleashes a fierce shot and McGovern makes a great save to keep it out.

31' - Milik should have opened the scoring for Poland! A brilliant move from Blaszczykowski down the right results in a cross to Milik who controlled the ball well but he put his shot over the bar. Big let of for Northern Ireland.
29' - Milik takes a long range shot for Poland but it is easily saved by Michael McGovern.
25' - Poland keep pushing for the opening goal but strong defending from Northern Ireland is keeping them at bay for the meantime.
19' - Robert Lewandowski tries to wriggle himself some space in the Northern Ireland area but the defence stand strong to prevent him getting a shot away.
14' - Northern Ireland finally having some of the ball after Poland piled on the pressure from the start of the game.
5' - Poland pile the pressure on the Northern Ireland defence but they stand strong and get in some crucial blocks.
3' - Poland create the first decent move of the game as Piszczek gets in down the right but his dangerous cross is cleared.
1' - Gareth McAuley commits the first foul of the game with a late foul on Milik.

Northern Ireland, on the other hand, have received good news with Lafferty who pulled up in training earlier in the week being able to train again and is set to play in the game against Poland.
In terms of injuries ahead of the game, Poland manager Adam Nawa?ka has a few concerns with winger Kamil Grosicki a major doubt after injuring his ankle against Lithuania last week in a friendly. The Poles are also without two other wingers with Maciej Rybus and Pawel Wszolek both left out of the squad due to injuries.
Poland have their own talismatic striker in the form of Robert Lewandowski who himself scored 13 goals in Poland's qualification campaign and he is one that the Northern Irish defence will have to look out for sure in the first game. Lewandowski scored 42 goals also for Bayern Munich during the season so he will be looking to lead his country as far as they can go in the competition.
Northern Ireland will be confident coming into the tournament due to how well they qualified for it. The Green and White Army only lost one of their ten games and finished top of their group. The main man for Northern Ireland during qualification was striker Kyle Lafferty as he scored seven goals and was the talisman for the whole team and he will be hoping to continue his great form into the tournament.
This is the first meeting between the nations since 2009 when they met in the qualification stages for the 2010 World Cup. Northern Ireland came out on top on these occasions by winning 3-2 at home and drawing 1-1 away from home. Before these two matches though Poland had won the previous three matches so the game on Sunday is set to be a close encounter.
Northern Ireland have made it to the Euros for the first time ever and also will compete in their first major tournament since 1986. It is an incredible achievement for the Green and White Army who will be looking to make a splash in France and upset a few bigger nations. Northern Ireland boasts the longest unbeaten run out of all of the nations that are competing in France as they are 12 games unbeaten.
Poland come into this tournament looking to do much better than they did four years ago at the Euros when they disappointed on their home turf as they exited the competition at the group stages. The Polish team will be confident of making it through the group this time after having a good qualification campaign where they finished second in their group.
Group C is a difficult group with Poland and Northern Ireland being joined by World Champions Germany and Ukraine who play after this game in Nice. Both Poland and Northern Ireland, therefore, will be looking to get off to a perfect start knowing how difficult it will be to qualify from such a competitive group.
