Ukraine starting XI: Ukraine: Pyatov, Fedetskiy, Rakitskiy, Shevchuk, Khacheridi, Stepanenko, Sydorchuk, Yarmolenko, Kovalenko, Konoplyanka, Seleznyov

Stay tuned as we will be giving you the full lineups an hour before kickoff! We hope you enjoy Wales vs England ahead of this clash!

The referee for tonight’s match is the Czech Republic’s Pavel Kravolec. While this his Kravolec’s first involvement in the tournament, he is an experienced referee. He has ref’d matches in the Champions League, the Europa League, and on the international stage.

Ukraine are expected to name the same starting eleven. However, it looks like Northern Ireland could be switching from a 3-5-1-1 to a 4-4-2. This will allow them to attack more than the last formation. Will it work? We shall see!

Northern Ireland probable starting eleven: McGovern; McLaughlin, Cathcart, Evans, McAuley; Ferguson, Dallas, Davis, Norwood; Lafferty, Washington

Ukraine probable starting eleven: Pyatov; Fedetskiy, Khacheridi, Rakitskiy, Shevchuk; Stepanenko, Sydorchuk, Kovalenko; Yarmolenko, Konoplyanka; Zozulya

Luckily for both sides, no one has been injured or suspended which means that similar lineups will be used by both managers.

If one of these nations loses tonight, then they are more than likely out of the tournament. A point or more will be key here.

Northern Ireland’s main point in attack is Kyle Lafferty. The Norwich City man leads the side in goals, with 17 in only 52 appearances. He leads Northern Ireland in goals by a wide margin. The next closest is the captain, Steven Davis, with eight. This statistic does not bode very well for NI as they will need to find goals in their squad as soon as possible.

Northern Ireland also lost their opening match of the competition, a 1-0 defeat to Poland. They fought hard against the opposition, but ultimately, Arkadiusz Milik scored the winner in the six minutes after the halftime interval.

For Ukraine, there are two key men: Yevhen Konoplyanka and Andriy Yarmolenko. Both Konoplyanka and Yarmolenko play on opposite sides of the pitch; the former on the left, the latter on the right. They are Ukraine’s creative outlets and have similar skill sets. Konoplyanka and Yarmolenko like to attack opposition defenders, run straight at them, try and open up space in behind the defense.

Hope for Ukraine though is not lost; the European Championships is a forgiving tournament. There will be four third placed teams advancing to the knockout stage of the tournament. This means that if they pick up points in their next two matches, Ukraine could still move on.

This is a vital match for both Ukraine and Northern Ireland. For the yellow and blue’s, they were humbled in their opening round match to Germany. Ukraine played decent in stretches against Germany, but ultimately, they were outclassed. The defending world champion’s stormed away with a 2-0 win, Ukraine though, made life difficult. They were compact and well organized. At times, Ukraine were able to go on the counter but were not very effective in the final third.
