In an interview with Bild, Borussia Dortmund CEO, Hans-Joachim Watzcke, has revealed that he would welcome back former BVB trequartista, Shinji Kagawa, to the Westfalenstadion. Watzcke stated: "the door is always open to Shinji [Kagawa]."

However, the Japan national's agent, Tim Kroth, has seemingly ruled out a return to BVB this summer: "At this time, I believe that Kagawa will stay in Manchester; but you know what can happen in football."

Kagawa spent two seasons in the Bundesliga with Dortmund, winning two league titles and one DFB Pokal. He was also named in the Bundesliga team of the season on two occasions by Kicker.

Whilst appearing on Japanese football show, Foot Brain, Kagawa admitted that he would like to return to BVB one day, and that he was proud to see his former side achieve great things in the UEFA Champions League: "Someday, I would like to return to Dortmund... if they want me. I was proud to see my former team play in the Champions League final, and I was very excited for them. It didn't make me feel I had made the wrong choice. It rather made me feel stronger about it, because I want to be on the same field in future."

During the interview, Kagawa also spoke of his difficult time in Manchester so far: "It was a tough time for me as I had a lot going on in my head. I am not pleased with my performances for the team as I didn’t score many goals due to my injury. However, it was great we won the league, I just don’t feel that I achieved everything that I wanted. For me personally, it was not a great season.”
