Dieter Hecking's past and present collide this Saturday afternoon, when former employees host his current side, VfL Wolfsburg. For the home side, they have the troubling task of getting their season back on track. A side desperate of three points; something they have yet to do in twelve out of their twelve Bundesliga games. Consequence? They are currently rooted to the foot of the table, with little sign of climbing their way out.  It's not an ideal scenario going into a game in need of three points against the side fifth in the league, VfL Wolfsburg. After a topsy-turvy start to their campaign, Die Wölfe rectified matters and currently found themselves the one of the form sides in the division - taking maximum points from their last four fixtures.

Form wise for Nürnberg, it's a huge concern. They have conceded the first goal in their last four home matches. Tthat's down to poor form, but smashing the woodwork a league-high eleven times isn't - that's poor finishing mixed with bad luck.

However, if it is of any consolation for Nürnberg, they have had the better end of the stick regarding results in this fixture. Twenty-three meetings between the two sides has seen Nürnberg record ten wins, seven draws and just five losses. Not bad, it could be a help to give them momentum going into the game. I'm sure they'd like to put the sword to Wolfsburg's rich vein of form and former boss, Dieter Hecking. Nürnberg have also drawn their last three games against the 'top six' this season, which comes as a bonus.

This game will mark Hecking's first return to the Grundig in the opposing dugout. It also marks the potential showdowns of five players. Alexander Esswein, Emanuel Pogatetz and Makoto Hasebe all face their former side. Hasebe marks his first time doing so. Jan Polak and Timm Klose also face Nürnberg; the latters first time since his €5m move from Nürnberg.

Lastly, Nürnberg can't afford to let their guard slip, as Diego returns into the Wolfsburg frame from a stomach injury. He hasn't been missed, surprisingly, as Maxi Arnold and Ivan Perisic have stepped up to the plate. I'm sure Wolfsburg will welcome his arrival with open arms.

It promises to be an engaging fixture, with an important three points on the line for both sides.
