Schalke have confirmed that Germany international Sidney Sam will join in the summer.

The 25-year-old Bayer Leverkusen midfielder has signed a four-year deal at the Veltins Arena, keeping him with the Royal Blues until 2018.

Schalke's General Manager Horst Heldt said: "Sidney Sam has shown how much impetus he can offer in attack, and not just with his impressive performances this season,"

"He's extremely versatile, very ambitious and wants to achieve big things with Schalke. We're delighted he's opted for Royal Blue."

Sam began his professional career with Hamburg; however, he only made four first-team appearances for the Red Shorts before moving to Leverkusen in 2010.

Since then, the versatile midfielder has made 83 appearances in the Bundesliga, scoring 23 goals.

Despite being eligible to play for Nigeria, the homeland of his father, Sam chose to represent Germany. Having been capped at Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 level, he made his full international debut last year against Ecuador and has gone on to win five caps.
