Bayern’s Dante has signed a new deal until 2017. His previous deal was set to run out in 2016 and he had been attracting interest from Manchester United over the past few months.

The defender posted on his Facebook page, “I am very happy to have renewed my contract here at FC Bayern Munich. I have renewed until 2017 and I would like to thank the support from all my fans and the club.”

Bayern’s chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge stated that, “Dante has been one of our best signings in the last couple of years”. The Brazilian centre back arrived in 2012 from Borussia Mönchengladbach in a deal worth €4.7 million. Since then he has been a mainstay in the Bayern backline, which saw him pick up the famous treble in a record-breaking campaign last season.

Due to missing a large section of preseason training due to the Confederations Cup with Brazil, it took Dante a while to adapt to Guardiola’s high line style of play. However, after a few months everything started to ‘click’ and he has since recaptured the form that saw him voted as one of the best defenders in the league last season. With Confederations Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup medals already under his belt this season, Dante will be looking forward to adding to his growing list of honors with Bayern and Brazil.
