Sitting in tenth, Hertha Berlin’s European hopes have been all but ended. They headed into this game looking to end their poor home form, winning just one of their last nine at the Olympiastadion.

Hoffenheim visited the capital looking to shed some daylight between the hosts and team below Hertha Berlin. Last Match Day Markus Gisdol’s side became the first side this season to take anything away from the Allianz, as they came from 3-1 down to draw with Bayern.

The home side started the brighter and the deadlock was broken after eleven minutes. Sami Allagui slipped through on goal and slotted past Koen Casteels diving to his left. 1-0 to Hertha BSC. Pushing for the second goal, Die Blau-Weißen attacked the Hoffenheim goal. Chances fell to Ben Hatira and Per Skjelbred but both chances couldn’t result in their lead being doubled.

The away side looked for an equaliser. Hoffenheim star player Kevin Volland’s header didn’t trouble Thomas Kraft. Another opportunity was squandered seconds before when Tobias Strobl’s effort was poor and no danger to the homeside. After half an hour the pressure finally paid off when the ball was played to Eugen Polanski after some great inter-play, he took one touched and fired his shot goalwards finding the bottom corner. 1-1 at the Olympiastadion, Eugen Polanski scoring his third of the season. Moments later they nearly added a second, Roberto Firmino forced Thomas Kraft into making a save.

Before half-time, Hoffenheim looked like the more likely side to go into the dressing rooms as leaders. Sejad Salihovic had two attempts to double the away-sides' lead but on both occasions he couldn’t test the out-of-form torhüter.

On the stroke of half-time Borussia Dortmund target Adrian Ramos forced a save out of Koen Casteels, and moment’s later, goalscorer Sami Allagui's effort was too easy for the Hoffenheim keeper.

At half-time the teams went in level, Hertha Berlin 1-1 1899 Hoffenheim.

When play resumed Hertha had two chances coming from their dangermen, Ronny and Adrian Ramos. Once again, poor finishing was the end result.

After Seventy-three minutes, concern for Koen Casteels as he was stretchered off later confirmed to be a fractured tibia in his right-leg.

In the last five minutes, Adrian Ramos’ shot straight into substitution goalkeeper Alexander Stolz. He was called into action a minute later, this time Ronny’s shot was parried.

At the other end in the fifth minute of stoppage time Kevin Volland’s shot tipped over the bar by Kraft.

Full-time the match ended as a 1-1 draw at the Olympiastadion.

Hertha Berlin winless home form continues. No win in 2014 for Jos Luhukay’s side, they stay tenth. Matchday 30 see’s Hertha travel to the Bayer Arena.

Hoffenheim cannot stretch the gap and stay ninth on 39 points. Hoffenheim host Bayern slayers Augsburg at home next Sunday.
