Nürnberg sacked their coach Gertjan Verbeek this morning after only one win in their previous nine games.

Under-23 coach Roger Prinzen will be interim manager until the end of the season, in a hope to turn round Der Club's fortunes as they look likely for relegation.

Verbeek's fate was sealed on matchday 31 where Nürnberg recorded a 4-1 defeat at home to Bayer Leverkusen.

Out of the three remaining games, Nürnberg will travel away to Mainz and Schalke on the last day, with Hannover 96 at home - sandwiched in between.

Sporting Director Martin Bader told BILD: "We are convinced that we can once again release something with this decision.

Roger knows the team well and has already proven that he can help the team quickly in a serious situation," before adding "He is a positive trainer who approaches the job very realistically, but also with the necessary optimism."

The 45-year old coach said: "Everything that was previously, now no longer plays a role. We will re-engage.

According to Opta - Verbeek picked up just 0.91 points per game at Nürnberg, which is less than predecessor Michael Wiesinger (1.16).
