FSV Mainz 05 have completed the signing of Filip Djuricic, from SL Benfica, for the upcoming season.

As speculated last week, Djuricic will join the Bundesliga club on a year-long loan deal, with an option to make the deal permanent for €12.5 million.

The 22-year old moved to Benfica from Heerenveen last summer where he has recorded 11 appearances for the Portuguese club as Jorge Jesus' men lifted their 33rd title.

Djuricic played for Red Star Belgrade's youth side before signing his first professional contract with Serbian side Radnicki Obrenovac. The attacking player then moved to Dutch club Heerenveen, where he made 100 appearances in three years for the club, scoring 20 goals.

"Filip is a young player who has worked his way into a top European club with his performances," Mainz' sporting director told the club's website. "We're delighted he sees the chance to develop here as a footballer. He's going to raise the level of our football further while his versatility gives out attacking play even more variety."

Djuricic has featured for Serbia on 15 occasions, scoring four goals.

Kasper Hjulmand was appointed the coach of Mainz after Thomas Tuchel's departure. Hjulmand, 42, told the club's website: "He is a very talented player, nimble and dangerous in front of goal, who can raise the bar in the team."

Djuricic will travel to Mainz on Thursday where he will meet his new teammates after the training camp.

Mainz have been active in the transfer window so far, signing Gonzalo Jara who featured for Chile at the World Cup in Brazil. 20-year old Greek goalkeeper Stefanos Kapino has also joined the club from Panathinaikos on a four-year deal whilst Daniel Brosinski has joined from Greuther Furth.
