Ivan Perisic is set to  miss the start of the Bundesliga season with VfL Woflsburg after fracturing his shoulder.

The Croatia international suffered the injury in the Telekom Cup Final defeat against Bayern Munich on Sunday, having to be withdrawn after 20 minutes.

"These injuries are very unfortunate for us. But we have a broad squad of players with which we can compensate for such absentees," sporting director Klaus Allofs told the club's website.

"The important thing is that every individual enjoys the ideal healing process and that the players can rejoin the team as quickly as possible."

Perisic, will undergo surgery on his left shoulder in the next few days.

The 25-year old scored 10 goals for Wolfsburg last season and played a major role at the World Cup over summer.  The Croatian scored two games in three games whilst also having an assist to his name.

Wolfsburg will kick off their Bundesliga campaign against defending champions Bayern Munich on August 22.
