Relegated Eintracht Braunschweig welcomed Heidenheim on Saturday afternoon, two teams that were two leagues apart last season, but differing fortunes in 2013/14 meant they face each other in the 2.Bundesliga this season.

After a 2-2 draw - Dusseldorf on Matchday 1, Lieberknecht changed to a flat 4-4-2 for this game, with Kruppke and Nielsen spearheading the attack with Zuck on the right. Heidenheim made just one change from their impressive opening day victory, Bagceci replacing Leipertz on the right wing.

Kruppe and Boland went close early on but failed to test the ‘keeper, but when Nielsen was given the opportunity seconds after Boland, he made no mistake. Latching on to a cross by Reichel, he ensured his side went into the break ahead with a neat finish.

Heidenheim had chances, but were wasteful, and they were made to pay in the second half. Reichel made it two just before the hour mark smashing home from close range, and from then on it was plain sailing.

The visitors were the better team throughout the second period, peppering the goal with efforts, though Gikiewicz was equal to everything, and in truth, never looked like being beaten.

The Lions were happy to sit back, and they scored again to put the game to bed with 18 minutes remaining. Again it was Reichel, topping off a fabulous performance for himself and his team as he nutmegged the keeper with a low finish.

4 points from 2 games is a decent return from the relegated side, and face a tricky trip to Kaiserslautern next. Heidenheim will be hoping for a second win from two home games when they host 1860 Munich on the 22nd.
