Max Kruse has been sidelined after going through successful kidney surgery to remove kidney stones, a statement on the clubs site read.

Kruse will miss Borussia's cup tie against FC Homburg (16/8) , The first leg of Borussia's Europa League qualifying match against FK Sarajevo (21/8) and "die fohlen"'s Bundesliga opener against Stuttgart.

Kruse is unable to train this week and a return next week still remains highly unlikely.

Kruse's injury will come as a huge blow for the side who are now left with no established first team striker. It remains unclear whether youngsters Hrgota or Younes will start in his absence or if Gladbach will look to bring in another striker to fill the void.

Kruse took to popular social media site "Instagram" almost a week ago and told followers in short,

"Hello Friends! If you have not heard, I had to undergo surgery because of a ureteral stone. I hope to leave hospital as soon as possible and get back training with the boys. Max

We all wish Max a sppedy recovery.
