After going two goals up in the first half, Hertha Berlin allow Werder Bremen two goals in as many minutes to lose three points which looked like they had wrapped up in the first 45 minutes at the Olympiastadion in Berlin.

The first several minutes started out slowly, as they tried to feel each other out, but the match picked up as Hertha were pushing towards their opening goal. Hertha got on the scoresheet first as Roy Beerens floated a ball back to the middle of the box where Julian Schieber headed home, with some help from a slight deflection, the perfect delivery.

They nearly scored a second goal in the 19th minute, just three minutes after their first one, as Ronny hit a rocket of a costless kick, which also took a slight deflection, but, his effort went inches wide of the target. Berlin's defense in the first half was really excellent. They stayed compact and stopped Werder Bremen from making any progress into their defensive third of the pitch. This caused the visitors much frustration and it seemed as though Bremen were running out of ideas.

And finally, just after the 30 minute mark, the visitors got their first decent look of the match. Zlatko Junuzovic rocketed a shot, but it was never troubling Thomas Kraft. Schieber sent in his second goal of the night just two minutes after the restart as he tapped in a sitter into an open goal as Berlin doubled their lead.

But Werder Bremen fought back. Something clicked in Robin Dutt's side as they looked more fluid and were starting to pass the ball well finding space behind Hertha's defense. In the 53rd minute of play, Bremen's improvement finally paid off as Assani Lukimya as a deflection, off of the defenders back, found the back off the net off of a set-piece opportunity.

In a matter of minutes, Werder Bremen got their equalizer through Argentine striker Franco Di Santo in the 57th minute after they were quick on a counterattack, leaving the Berlin defense unorganized. Di Santo's shot was initially saved by Kraft but it still went into the back of the net as it got behind him.

All in all, it was a fair draw even though Hertha fans will probably feel that they should have taken all three points in this match. On the other hand, Werder Bremen's fans should be pleased after they earned a point, despite a dreadful first 45 minutes.
