The Stade de Gerland. The Champions League play-off round, first leg. Lyon - Real Sociedad. The Basques open the scoring through an incredible Antoine Griezmann bicycle kick. The Spaniards seal the victory with another stunning goal. A 21-year old striker was the goalscorer. Four days earlier, he had marked his La Liga debut with a goal in a 2-0 win - Getafe, having signed from Fiorentina in the summer. Things in Spain couldn't have started any better for Haris Seferovic. He had only made eight appearances with the Italians. Settling in Sociedad was essential in the Swiss youngster's development.

Seferovic however would only make nine league starts, with another thirteen from the bench, and he would only score once more in La Liga, coming off the bench to score the final goal in Sociedad's 5-0 thrashing of Osasuna. He also scored once in the Copa del Rey. Only four goals in a debut season sounds extremely poor, but Seferovic wasn't getting the regular opportunities that he needed to improve for a player still in the early stages of his career. He wasn't settling in, he wasn't feeling comfortable in Spain, and after just one season with Sociedad, Seferovic was gone.

Having scored the equaliser for Switzerland in their winning comeback - Ecuador in their first World Cup game, and only losing out to Argentina in extra-time in the last-16, Seferovic returned to Europe and focussed on finding a new club. In stepped Frankfurt, and the Swiss signed a three-year contract on August 1st. His first two competitive appearances for the club have mirrored that of twelve months ago at Sociedad. A goal in the Pokal victory against Viktoria Berlin and the winner in the Matchday One clash against Freiburg.

Unlike his one-year spell in Spain, Seferovic, should he stay fit, will get plenty of regular chances in the Frankfurt starting eleven. Sociedad had a Champions League campaign to deal with, whilst they were also trying to get back in the competition this season; the pressure for a place in the starting eleven was much higher. In reality, Frankfurt aren't expected to challenge for European positions, and they don't have a continental campaign to deal with in 2014/15, unlike last season. With the focus on domestic matters, it gives Seferovic the chance to really shine and make the striker position his own. If he reguarly finds the back of the net, and can create chances for others, not only will Seferovic improve at a vast rate, his long-term future will be sustained in Frankfurt. He could well prove to be one of the signings of the season in Germany.
