Spanish world and European champion Xabi Alonso is now officially a Bayern player just days after retiring from international football.

Germany’s biggest club and Real Madrid agreed and signed the terms of the midfielder’s transfer to Munich on Friday morning. The 32-year-old, who will ink a two-year contract with the Bundesliga giants, officially took his leave from Madrid late on Friday morning before flying to the Bavarian capital. The player completed the obligatory pre-transfer medical in Munich on Thursday.

The Spaniard had this to say on his decision to move to a new club:

“When Bayern are interested in you then you must not hesitate for a single second,” Alonso told Germany’s Sport 1 television. “I am looking forward to what lies ahead. I am proud at my age to have another chance to play for such a great club.”

Xabi Alonso will certainly will be looking to have a fresh start at the Allianz Arena, and will hope his experience and quality will guide the players arounds him.
