Goals from Yuya Osako and Anthony Ujah were enough to earn 1. FC Köln their first three points of the season, despite a late flurry of chances from VfB Stuttgart.

Osako scored his first goal in Köln colours as he pounced on an error from VfB Stuttgart's Daniel Schwaab after 22 minutes, much to the delight of the 4,000 travelling fans. The Stuttgart defender forced a save out of his own keeper, who could only parry the ball in to the path of the oncoming Japanese, who prodded the ball in to an empty net.

It then took Köln only 11 minutes to get their second of the game, Ujah made up for a miss in the opening game with a exquisite finish from outside the box, beyond the helpless Sven Ulreich to make it 2-0 after 33 minutes.

Peter Stöger made one change to the team that drew 0-0 against Hamburg following the opening game of the season at the RheinEnergieStadion. Adam Matuszczyk was replaced by Kevin Vogt in the heart of midfield, whilst Stuttgart boss Armin Veh named the same squad that drew against Borussia Monchengladbach.

It was always going to be a tough game for Stöger's players, their first away game back in the Bundesliga following their promotion. "Difficult, but not impossible," were the words from the Austrian in his pre-match comments.

It was Köln who started off the better side too. Two quick successive corners from Daniel Halfar troubled Ulreich, with Hiroki Sakai having to clear the ball off the line for Stuttgart.

Martin Harnik looked as lively as ever, pulling his shot wide of Timo Horn's goal before Alexandru Maxim's shot from long range stung the hands of Horn, the Köln goalkeeper. The Romanian will be looking to add to his tally following his goal against Gladbach last weekend.

The two goals from the Billy Goats took the sting out of Stuttgart's attack, with Vedad Ibisevic and Co not been able to conjure up any really opportunities.

Veh was unhappy with his team following the two quick goals, forcing the first change of the game for Stuttgart. On came German youngster Timo Werner in place of Harnik. Whilst Stoger stuck with the same 11 for the restart.

Ujah came close to adding to his earlier goal. A pass from Marcel Risse in the channel found the Nigerian unmarked who forced a save from Ulreich after 56 minutes.

A good spell from Stuttgart saw Daniel Didavi's effort from 25-yards saved by Horn, however the following corner was poor. The German had another chance just two minutes later, after a neat lay-off from Ibisevic. However, the effort from just inside the box was heroically blocked by Kevin Wimmer.

Felix Brych waved away a penalty appeal from Christian Gentner with 20 minutes left to play, to Veh's disgust.

Simon Zoller replaced goalscorer Ujah who may have picked up an injury, but not before the Nigerian played a ball to Daniel Halfar who looked to lob the ball over the onrushing Ulreich, seeing his effort sail just wide.

The result leaves Köln in fourth place with another away game against SC Paderborn 07 in matchday three. Suttgart on the other hand find themselves in a lowly 14th as they travel to the champions Bayern Munich in two weeks.
