Jairo Samperio Bustara, another Spaniard that has swapped La Liga for the Bundesliga. The Spanish under-21 player joined 1.FSV Mainz 05 in a last minute deal on deadline day, following his signature from Sevilla after just one year in the Spanish city.
The 21-year old joined Mainz 05 on a four year contract, signing from the Europa League Winners for €2 million. Following the departure of Nicolai Muller, Jairo will be looking to fill the void.
Jairo on; the Bundesliga:
"The Bundesliga has a new appeal. My style of football could fit very good in this league. In Spain, the game is always more defensive aligned. In Germany, I have better ways to show my offensive qualities. Also I like the new stadiums and great atmosphere in Germany."
Jairo on; why he chose Germany:
"It was a difficult decision, because I speak no German, but there was a great interest and the [Sevilla] coach didn't want me. Parallel, I had an offer from a Spanish club, but only on loan. I wanted no lending, but a real change.
Jairo on; confidence:
"I was regarded as a future player in Seville, I was in the starting XI until December last year. Then the coach did not have confidence in me. That's why I wanted to change. Here in Mainz, the team and the coaches trust me, that's important to me."
Jairo on; comparison with Nicolai Muller:
"I play on the right wing. At Sevilla, I was already compared with Jesus Navas. I don't like any comparisons. I'm Jairo and I will go my own way."
Jairo on; objectives:
"I want to get the maximum out of me. It is important that I can help the team, then the good games and goals come from me alone. Maybe in the next year, we're able to qualify for the Europa League."
Jairo on; Mainz' game against Hertha Berlin:
"I am full of hope to stand in the squad. When the colleagues return from the national teams, then we can also begin training."
