GOALKEEPER
Timo Horn (Köln): The 21 year old keeper has found some good form early on this season as his newly promoted side, FC Köln, will look to maintain their 1. Bundesliga status. He made a number of saves against Paderborn, including a quick reflex save against Kachunga’s improvised volley. Horn remains the only first choice keeper to not concede a goal after three match days.

DEFENDERS
Jérôme Boateng (Bayern): Did all the right things in a defence that was shaken up by yet another injury to Holger Badstuber. He made 85 passes, 2 tackles, 4 interceptions and 3 clearances to deny Stuttgart any shots on target.

Ragnar Klavan (Augsburg): Klavan and his Augsburg defensive compatriots had a busy day against Eintracht Frankfurt. He made 16 defensive actions, 13 of those were clearances as he helped to maintain his teams advantage.

Miiko Albornoz (Hannover): The Swedish born Chilean international fullback had a fantastic game against the Bundesliga dinosaurs Hamburger SV. He was solid at the back, but his contribution going forward helped Hannover find the opener. His cross for Andreasen for Hannover’s first was perfectly weighted.

MIDFIELDERS
Shinji Kagawa (Dortmund): BVB fan favourite was thrown into the deep end due to an injury to Marco Reus and duly impressed. The game saw many misplaced passes from both sides in the early stages, but Kagawa was involved in Dortmund’s first goal thanks to a sublime through-ball. To cap off his return he scored not long later after being set up by Ramos. He was subbed off after an hour with a strain, which is expected due to lacking match practice.

Xabi Alonso (Bayern): Alonso put in a great shift for Bayern as he made 140 passes with an 89% completion rate. His freekick led to the goal that was scored by Götze and in the second half his deflected shot came off the cross bar.

Andre Hahn (Gladbach): Hahn’s direct running and pace helped Gladbach get the opener against struggling Schalke. He took his shot well with a great amount of composure to clip the shot off the inside of Fährmann’s post. He had to wait until the second half to make it a brace and cap off a wonderful evening for Gladbach.

Hakan Çalhanoğlu (Leverkusen): The Turkish international is fitting in well, as he has impressed since the start of the season, both domestically and in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers. This was a frantic game where Leverkusen really should have won, considering the chances they made. A lot of them were thanks to Çalhanoğlu. He didn’t disappoint in the scoring department either as he scored a trademark freekick to pull Leverkusen back 2-2 in the 63rd minute.

Moritz Stoppelkamp (Paderborn): Stoppelkamp was one of the players that tried to find the opener against Köln. He amassed an impressive four shots at goal, the same amount Köln’s entire team could only manage. Two of his attempts were on target, but he was denied by Timo Horn between the sticks. Over the course of the match he made 2 key passes and dribbled past opposition players 3 times.

STRIKERS
Shinji Okazaki (Mainz): It’s fantastic to see Okazaki continue his amazing form from last season by scoring a brace against Hertha BSC. In the 2013/14 campaign he scored a whopping 5 braces, so hopefully for Mainz’s sake he’ll look to match or beat that this season.

Max Kruse (Gladbach): The Max Kruse we know and love. It’s great to see him and Rafael back tormenting Bundesliga defences. Kruse combined wonderfully with Rafael and Hahn, as the three of them contributed and scored all four goals. The Germany international ended the match with two assists and one goal. A nice haul to start off his 2014/15 season.
