Borussia Dortmund midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan believes his side have the potential to go all the way to the final in this years competition.

Ahead of the group stage tie against Arsenal, the 25-year old told kicker: "Why not? We have the necessary strength to do it. We can reach the final again and will do everything to be there."

Former club captain, Sebastian Kehl also told the magazine: "It's been a while since our last home win over Arsenal. So we have some making up to do."

The German side defied all odds to reach the final of the European competition in 2012-13, losing to Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich at the final hurdle.

Elsewhere in the Bundesliga, World Cup winner, Philipp Lahm, believes "Bayern won't miss or mourn [Toni] Kroos."

The former Bayern midfielder joined La Liga side Real Madrid in the summer, following eight year at the Bundesliga Champions.

Lahm, 30, told kicker: "We have so much quality at Bayern that it's difficult to weaken us.

"I do not mourn Kroos. I've been around at Bayern long enough to not grieve for players leaving, even if Kroos is an excellent man."

Bayern kick off their Champions League campaign with a home tie against Premier League champions Manchester City on Wednesday.

In brief, Mirko Slomka has been given two days to save his job with Hamburg. The 47-year old manager took charge of the Bundesliga club towards the end of last season.

However, a dismal start to this campaign, has seen Hamburg collect just one point in three matches.

Hannover 96 midfielder, Lars Stindl has rejected contract talks with the club over an extension. The midfielder will be able to leave the club for around €2million next summer.

Finally, Werder Bremen's German under-19 forward, David Selke is set to extended his contract with the club until 2018.

The 19-year old has made just six appearances for the first team, however, the German is tipped for huge success, having scored 14 goals in 15 games for the German U19s.
