Braunschweig were looking to end their run of three straight losses, before tonight they only managed one win in five games. Darmstadt on the other hand were looking to extend their unbeaten run, they started the season brilliantly, winning three and drawing two. This was the fifth meeting between the two sides, the last meeting saw the Lions win 3-2 back in 1982. Darmstadt have never beaten Braunschweig, the closest they've come was back in 1979 when the two sides drew 1-1.

The opening stages of the game didn't see much action as both sides tried finding their feet in the game, it took seventeen minutes for the first good chance. A costless=kick into the box found an unmarked Dennis Kruppke, who flicked the ball towards goal, however Christian Mathenia reacted well to stop the header.

Braunschweig were denied a penalty when Orhan Ademi was through on goal, Mathenia rushed out and Ademi chipped the ball over the keeper and went down after contact with the Darmstadt keeper. The referee waved away the protests, the way Ademi went down was probably why the spot kick wasn't given. Ademi was apart of the action again when Ken Reichel's drilled cross into the box from the left saw Ademi stretch for it, however he couldn't get enough contact on it to direct it towards goal.

Just after the half hour mark Håvard Nielsen put the home side ahead, Hendrick Zuck played the ball back and Nielsen finished brilliantly putting his curling effort across goal and out of Mathenia's reach.

Ademi was once again on the end of another chance, the striker constantly providing a threat to the Darmstadt goal. A scuffed effort found Ademi and his effort on the turn rolled just wide of the post.

Darmstadt had a penalty shout of their own when Marcel Heller flew down the left side and Marc Pfitzner brought him down in the box, the referee once again waved away the protests, this one was a much more clear penalty shout and should've been given.

As the first half entered injury time Sandro Sirigu switched the ball brilliantly to Heller, unfortunately for the visitors Rafal Gikiewicz was very quick off his line to head the ball clear.

Half Time: Eintracht Braunschweig 1-0 Darmstadt.

Darmstadt had much more energy about them early in the second half, but they weren't able to make the most of their bright spell. Despite playing well they struggled in the final third.

Braunschweig came close when Marcel Correia delightfully controlled with his chest before back heeling the ball to Ademi, unfortunately for the home side Ademi could only drag his shot wide. Braunschweig were having the best of the chances and when Nielsen found Ademi with a low cross, the striker's shoot on the turn crept just wide, Zuck just missed reaching the ball at the back post.

Darmstadt came close to an equaliser when a corner was met by the head of substitute Florian Jungwirth, his header was cleared off the line by the knee of Damir Vrančić.

Braunschweig sealed all three points with the last kick of the game, a goal kick from Gikiewicz wasn't dealt with and this allowed Kruppke to get through on goal, he rounded the keeper and tucked his effort in from a tight angle.

Full Time: Eintracht Braunschweig 2-0 Darmstadt.
