In an open and costless flowing match on Wednesday evening, it looked as if Dortmund were going to lose for the second consecutive match. However, new signee, Ciro Immobile earned the home side a point against a club who had just sacked their manager hours before kickoff.

Shinji Kagawa had a shot in the sixth minute of play, but it fell straight into the hands of the Stuttgart goalkeeper, Sven Ulreich. Three minutes later, young Milos Jojic had his long-range effort saved excellently by Ulreich, who was keeping Stuttgart in this match early and often. It was all Dortmund in the first half of the match as they carried a majority of the possession and produced the most quality chances.

It wasn't until the 23rd minute of the match that Stuttgart had their two best opportunities in the first half. The first chance was through Timo Werner, who had his effort saved by Roman Weidenfeller. Next up was Carlos Gruezo, but, unfortunately, dragged his shot wide of the target. Right before the half, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had a great chance to put Dortmund up by one, but his header just missed the frame of the goal as both teams went into the interval deadlocked at zero.

Within three minutes after the second half had started, Stuttgart had taken the lead through Daniel Didavi in which was quite a surprise in actuality after the dominating first 45 minutes. Nothing was clicking for Dortmund after that as the goal shell shocked the hosts and they were unable to keep possession for very long. Daniel Didavi finished off his brace in spectacular fashion in the 68th minute as he beat Weidenfeller to give the visitors a shock 0-2 lead.

But Dortmund fought back instantly. Just five minutes after Stuttgart took the lead, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang cut their lead in half with a fantastic finish. About ten minutes later, Dortmund thought they had leveled the match with Immobile's header but it again went straight into the hands of Ulreich. Finally, in the 86th minute, the Italian striker completed the comeback and to steal away what would have been Stuttgart's first victory of the season.
