VfL Wolfsburg 2-1 Werder Bremen: Wolves get back on track

The game started with the visitors using gegen-pressing tactics to push the hosts back but cracks started to appear after 11 minutes. Croatian striker Olic was just beaten to the ball by Bremen keeper, Raphael Wolf. Four minutes later, the deadlock was broken a lightning counter attack saw Kevin De Bruyne charge forward, he put Rodriguez through who scored like any accomplished striker would with a little dinked finish.

Werder Bremen grabbed a surprise equaliser 37 minutes into the match when 19 year-old right-back Busch did well to fire his half-volley past Diego Benaglio.

In the second half, Bremen started brighter, causing the Wolves problems, Nils Peterson had a half chance when Ivan Perisic lost possession but his shot was comfortably saved. Despite this, an excellent cross from Vieirinha was met by the diving head of Olic whose header went past a helpless Wolf to regain the lead for his side after 56 minutes.

A brilliant block from Robert Knoche denied Franco Di Santo a simple finish from six yards out. That was about it from Robin Dutt’s side, who is becoming increasingly under pressure. Another burst from Switzerland’s Rodriguez saw him set up a cheeky back-heel for Aaron Hunt which trickled agonisingly past the post

Late on, De Bruyne’s shot from the edge of area was again saved by Wolf. The same players came up against each other in the 89th minute but again the German foiled the Belgian and the match finished shortly after.
