Werder Bremen played out a disappointing 1-1 draw against SC Freiburg which saw the Green-Whites slip to the foot of the Bundesliga in matchday seven.

Vladamir Darida put the visitors a goal up from the spot after just eight minutes in to the match, sending Raphael Wolf the wrong way. On the half-hour mark, Argentine Franco Di Santo equalised from just inside the penalty area.

Robin Dutt made two changes to the team that lost against VfL Wolfsburg last weekend. Eljero Elia and Aleandro Galvez returned to the starting line up in place of Nils Petersen and Izet Harjovic.

Things couldn't have got off to a worse start for Bremen as they played in front of 38,000 supporters. Sebastian Prodl brought down Maximilian Philipp inside the box and referee, Knut Kircher, instantly pointed to the spot. Up stepped Darida, who returned from suspension, to calmly slot the ball in to the net.

Despite a slow start, Elia had the chance to equalise for Bremen after 24 minutes. The Dutch international charged in to the box before attempting to lob the on-rushing keeper, Roman Bürki, who made an excellent save.

Persistence did then pay off for Dutt's men as Di Santo latched on to a wonderful pass from Zlatko Junuzovic, before finding the top corner, to make things level going in to the break.

After the restart, Freiburg nearly silenced the home support after Mike Frantz smashed the ball against the post, just four minutes in to the restart.

Bürki then denied Di Santo at the other end before Fin Bartels tested Freiburg's keeper from range with 20 minutes left to play. Bremen had the ball in the back of the net 12 minutes from time but Di Santo's strike was ruled out for offside.

The 1-1 draw now means that Bremen sit at the bottom of the Bundesliga and, with a trip to Bayern Munich next weekend, it could be a long season for them. Meanwhile, Freiburg sit in 15th, on even points with VfB Stuttgart and Hamburg who sit below them.
