Borussia Moenchengladbach travel to the HDI Arena today in a bid to maintain their fabulous unbeaten start to the season, against a Hannover side with a 100% home record.

Both sides have been more impressive on home turf this season, with Hannover picking up three victories from three conceding just the one goal, back on the opening day with a victory over Schalke. Despite this, they still have not found a cure for their away form, losing three of four so far and due to the scheduling; it means Korkut’s men come into this game having lost three of the last four games, scoring just one goal themselves.

Gladbach’s start to the season – despite seeing them unbeaten in seven – has included four draws, and their lack of goals this season may well be to blame. 9 goals in 7 games is impressive stuff, but taking away a 4-1 demolition of Schalke, they are averaging less than a goal per game. However, their defensive prowess is what is gaining them points, Yann Sommer has been superb between the sticks, only beaten on the road once so far in a game - Paderborn where he had to deal with 16 efforts on target – yet only being beaten the once.

They have casualties at the back though, with World Cup winner Christoph Kramer ruled out with illness, while Filip Daems is still not fit. Manager Lucien Favre is well aware of the threat that Die Roten have to, quoted on Bundesliga.com this week as saying: “We want to continue to pick up points and to do so we’ll need to play very well […] We know it’s not easy to win there and they have a lot of talent, especially up front: Leonardo Bittencourt, Hiroshi Kiyotake and Joselu are very dangerous.”

A win for Hannover would put them level on points with Gladbach, and dreams of Europe would become realistic again. They will be without Leon Andreasen and Stindl though, while they will be able to turn to Christian Schulz again who is back fit.

Manager Tayfun Korkut believes the whole squad has benefited from the international break, stating in the pre match conference, “We want to go into this match with self-confidence, panache and positive aggressiveness, which will be very important for us. We had two good weeks of training during the international break, where everyone performed really well. We’ve trained as well as we can for Saturday. The team are looking forward to playing in front of the home fans after nearly three and a half weeks.”

Whatever happens, the clash is sure to be an exciting one, 49 goals have been scored in the last 12 fixtures, while good news for Hannover fans is that the home side has triumphed in 10 of the last 13 match ups.
