A late goal from Havard Nielsen crushed the hosts' hopes of a third round DFB Pokal glamour tie. Christopher Bieber thought he'd levelled the game, but it was ruled out for offside.

Currently sitting top of the Regionalliga Bayern, Bernd Hollerbach and his Würzburger Kickers side were brimming with confidence. After a comfortable 4-1 win over Bayreuth, they couldn't be in slightly better form; sitting top by a point, winning their last four and beating Fortuna Düsseldorf in the last round. From the weekend victory, Dennis Schmitt and Adam Jabiri were dropped as Christopher Beiber and Kostadin Velkov came into the starting line-up.

Fresh from a hard earned 1-2 win in Bavaria, over 1860 Munich, Eintracht Braunschweig would have been hopeful of making it back-to-back triumphs. They also would have been keen to put out a better performance than the 0-1 win against Bremer SV in the last round. There were two changes to the starting line-up in Munich; Hendrick Zuck and Damir Vrancic were given a breather, with Norman Theuerkauf and Marc Pfitzner.

It was a physical start from the hosts, who saw Niklas Weißenberger booked after just 7 minutes. Both were looking dangerous from set-piece opportunities, as Marcel Correia and Marco Haller were denied by goal-line clearances. All in all, the opening stages were fairly even. Braunschweig had the best chance, however. When Dennis Kruppke went one-on-one with Robert Wulnikowski, it looked like it would be a formality; only for the veteran goalkeeper to produce a great, improvised one-handed save to keep the scores level.

Despite enjoying the visitors vast majority of possession, they failed to create any chances of note and the Würzburger defence was holding firm. When their resilience was finally broken, Mirko Boland somehow turned a tempting cross away from goal; it left himself bemused as his team-mates, just how he'd managed it was beyond belief. The red shorts forced the issue towards the end of the half and, unfortuantley for them, they couldn't find a way though, leaving the sides goal-less at half-time.

Raffael Krote's cross to Boland created havoc, but it was scrambled behind from a corner. Not that it provided much reculse from the danger, when Havard Nielsen headed the set-piece just over. All the early pressing was coming from Eintracht, but the several corners, crosses and shots came to nothing. After withstanding the initial early pressure from the 2.Bundesliga side, the minnows came back to take control. Several attempts from Würzburg couldn't force a goal, but Rafael Ginkewicz was well aware of the threat.

Mushaga Bakenga was making an obvious impact and immediately tested Wulnikowski after coming on. His introduction changed the game and he was able to set up Nielsen for what, at the time, looked to be the winner. The Norwegian set up his fellow countryman, as Nielsen slotted the ball home into the bottom left corner, out of the 'keeper's reach.

The lower league side didn't give up hope and were rewarded for their efforts with a dramatic late equaliser. Unfortunately for them, it was to be chalked off as Christopher Bieber was adjudged offside and that sparked wild debate. There was no changing Robert Kampka's mind and Braunschweig held on to progress.

A third round tie and a second win in a row will be welcomed by all associated with Eintracht Braunschweig, who have found it tough going following relegation. For Würzburger Kickers, they'll feel hard done by after their late equaliser was disallowed, but know that their main aim is promotion to the 3.Liga.
