Dynamo Dresden entertained VfL Bochum for this second round tie of the Pokal. The hosts had the best result of the previous round; a 2-1 victory over Schalke, a result that perhaps amassed to the demise of former Schalke boss, Jens Keller. Bochum meanwhile progressed through after an impressive 2-0 victory at home to Stuttgart.

Dresden boss, Stefan Böger made two changes from the side that drew away with MSV Duisberg at the weekend. Luca Dürholtz and Sinan Tekerci replaced Marvin Stefaniak and Robin Fluss. Whilst for the visitors, they made three changes. Jan Šimůnek, Marco Terrazzino and Patrick Fabian were all replaced by Malcolm Cacutalua, Tobias Weis and Heiko Butscher. The Glücksgas stadion was packed to the rafters, which made for a real atmosphere.

The visitors broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute, with a goal from club talisman Simon Terrode; silencing the Dresden faithful who had made for a raucous atmosphere. But the hosts were soon to be level, summer signing Justin Eilers equalised the score on the night in the 61st minute; only 8 minutes after the away side had took the lead, something Bochum manager, Peter Neururer will not have been pleased with.

The game went into extra time, but only four minutes into the first period, up stepped Eilers again to score his second of the match and the winner for Dresden. he away side pushed for an equaliser late on, bringing on veteran Finnish and former Chelsea striker Mikael Forssell, but they couldn't get. Dresden win, 2-1.

The result sees Dresden progress into the third round, something which will be a good distraction from their campaign in the 3. Liga and also a chance to earn the club some money and face the giants of German football. Whilst for Bochum, it's the end of this seasons cup exploits.
