Hoffenheim progressed to the next round of the DFB-Pokal with a comfortable 5-1 win over Bundesliga 2 side FSV Frankfurt.

The first chance of the game fell to Schipplock who came close in the 10th minute when he was played through on goal but Klandt easily saved his effort. Schipplock opened the scoring in the 23rd minute. Firmino picked up the ball from the halfway line and skipped his way past a Frankfurt defender, the Brazilian playmaker then ran at goal and laid the ball off to Schipplock who beautifully curled the ball around Klandt to make it 1-0 to Hoffenheim.

Engels had a great chance to make it 1-1 when Grahl collided head first with Süle’s thigh when both players tried to intercept a cross. Grahl went down badly injured but Engels showed no respect or sportsmanship to his opponent and tried put the ball in an empty net, but Vestergaard pulled off a brilliant block to deny Engels. Grahl was stretchered off the pitch after the keeper spent a long period of time on the floor and first choice keeper Oliver Baumann was brought on.

Jannick Vestergaard made it 2-0 on the stroke of half time, Roberto Firmino was once again the creator of the goal, the Brazilian played a good though ball down the middle of the Frankfurt defence to find Vestergaard open and the Danish defender slotted the ball past Klandt to double Hoffenheim’s lead.

The second half began and Hoffenheim found themselves 3-0 up when Firmino scored in the 55th minute, and what a goal it was! Strobl crossed the ball in from the right wing and Roberto Firmino brilliantly bicycle kicked the ball past a motionless Klandt to all but secure Hoffenheim’s progression into the next round of the DFB-Pokal. Modeste made it 4-0 to the hosts 23 seconds after coming on for Kevin Volland.

The Frenchman got on the end of a Firmino header and scored past Klandt with his first touch of the game. Modeste came close to bagging his brace after some good play from Schipplock resulted in Klandt scooping the ball up from inside the penalty box. Frankfurt scored a consolation goal in the 79th minute when substitute Andre Schembri’s header was poorly dealt with by Baumann and the German keeper parried the ball into his own net to make it 4-1.

Firmino scored his second and Hoffenheim’s fifth of the match in the 90th minute. Rudy sent in a brilliant lobbed ball straight to Firmino who found himself 1-one-1 with Klandt and the Brazilian playmaker just placed to ball past the Frankfurt keeper to make it 5-1 to Hoffenheim.
