Heidenheim could have moved into the top three with a victory, whereas Darmstadt were attempting to reach the dizzy heights of second and close the seven point gap currently seperating them and leaders Ingolstadt.

The ball fell to the edge of the box for Stroh-Engel but the striker could only wildly blast over and into the stand behind the goals. Up the other end, Neiderlechner had a golden opportunity to put Heidenheim 2-1 up as he was played clean through on goal but he dragged his shot wide of the far post.
Neiderlechener was then subbed but his near miss had really urged on his teammates as Leipertz found himself in a similar position not long after. Unfortunately for a rejuvenated looking Heidenheim, Leipertz also dragged his shot past the post like Neiderlechner.
Up the other end Sailer hurdled a slide tackle before cutting back to Stroh-Engel who could only hit off a defender. The rebounded ball landed at the feet of Behrens who lashed at it and hit the same defender as Stroh-Engel did seconds prior.
Both sides made late surges searching for supremacy and Heidenheim looked the likelier of claiming all three points but Darmstadt held on and both sides went away with a point.
