A late own-goal from Alexander Madlung earned Hannover 96 their second win in a row to lift them into the top six.

Hannover started as if they had a point to prove, not allowing Frankfurt much of the ball. They thought their efforts had been rewarded when Jimmy Briand headed home, but his challenge on David Kinsombi was adjudged to have been a foul and the goal was disallowed. The Reds did not let their disappointment show, however, and continued to play the ball around with a confidence developed from their 1-0 win at Dortmund last week.

Both sides improved in the second half, with Hannover going close to an opener, Hiroshi Kiyotake ran clear of the visiting defence before being denied by Felix Wiedwald. Wiedwald was forced into action once again moments later to get a crucial hand on Joselu's strike.

Just as both sets of supporters were preparing to settle for a point each, Hannover were gifted the victory as Madlung diverted Marcelo's header into his own net.
