Robert Lewandowski scored against his former club as Bayern Munich managed a comeback against struggling Borussia Dortmund to win 2-1 at the Allianz Arena.

Robben had the first chance on the game with a vicious strike being well saved by Weidenfeller. However Dortmund came into this game wanting to kick start their season against the Bundesliga champions and rivals, and the visitors almost took the lead in the 12th minute when Mkhitaryan came close but his shot bounced of the woodwork. Robben again came close in the 23rd minute when the Dutchman shot from on the edge of the box but Weidenfeller pulled off another great save. However it was Dortmund who opened the scoring and it came from reported Bayern Munich target Marco Reus. It all came from a vintage Borussia Dortmund counter-attack in the 31st minute when Aubameyang managed to break down the right wing after beating Alaba and the forward crossed the ball into an unmarked Marco Reus who headed the ball past Manuel Neuer to give the visitors an unexpected lead. Bayern increased their pressure on the Dortmund defence minutes after Black and Yellows took the lead, the Bavarian side unleashed a barrage of shots at Roman Weidenfeller but none could beat the German keeper. Weidenfeller again pulls off a world class save in the 37th minute to deny Thomas Muller. Arjen Robben missed a great chance to equalise for the German champions. The winger broke through on goal but the former Chelsea man took too long to put his chance away and Bender cleared the danger away.

Bayern entered the second half fighting with Alonso and Robben having early chances for the hosts easily dealt with by Weidenfeller. Lewandowski had a brilliant chance to score against his former team in the 50th minute but it was Weidenfeller again who denied the Bayern Munich no.9. Shinji Kagawa came close to doubling Dortmund’s lead on the hour mark. The former Manchester United playmaker turned his way past two Bayern defenders but his shot was just wide of the post. Benatia somehow managed to header wide from 4 yards out in the 64th minute to keep the score 1-0 to the Ruhr visitors. Bayern finally got their equaliser and who else but Robert Lewandowski is the scorer. Subotic fails to clear Ribery through ball and the ball finds itself in front of an unmarked Robert Lewandowski, who beautifully finishes the ball past his former teammate Roman Weidenfeller from 18-yards out to make it 1-1. The Polish striker kisses the hand he used to kiss whilst celebrating his goals at Borussia Dortmund, the club where the 25-year-old made his name. Bayern were awarded a penalty in the 84th minute when Subotic brought down Franck Ribery inside the penalty box, Arjen Robben stepped up to the spot and comfortably placed the ball past Weidenfeller to complete Bayern Munich’s comeback.
