Borussia Dortmund captain Mats Hummels will miss three weeks of action after spraining his foot against Bayern Munich.

It's more bad news that an already struggling BVB didn't need, who are currently towards the wrong end of the Bundesliga. After the 2-1 loss to Bayern, in which Hummels was substituted at half-time, it means they sit in the relegation places. The skipper's injury was confirmed following a scan performed by club doctor Markus Braun at the Knappschaft Hospital, in Dortmund, on Sunday.

That means Hummels' will miss the Champions League Group match against Galatasaray on Tuesday, as well as Sunday’s Bundesliga clash against Borussia Mönchengladbach. There are also ramifications for Germany; the defender is unavailable for ties against Gibraltar in EURO 2016 Group D and Spain in a friendly match.

Hummels should be fit for a return against fellow Westphalians SC Paderborn, when Borussia Dortmund travel to the Benteler-Arena on 22nd November.
