Hertha travelled to Paderborn to try and put an end to their poor away form, while Paderborn looked to continue their impressive start to life in the Bundesliga. The last time these two met was back in December 2012 and on that day Hertha came out on top with a 1-0 victory.

Paderborn made a bright start to the game and after some early pressure they almost on two occasions. First up was Moritz Stoppelkamp, the midfielder opened up his body and fired a shot from the edge of the area, Thomas Kraft was forced into making a good save to his right. Secondly a shot was fluffed and it bounced up to Elias Kachunga, who couldn't direct the ball in from a couple of yards out.

The away side started slowly and once again it was Paderborn that threatened to bulge the net, Alban Meha provided a decent effort which flew just over after an impressive thirty yard run.

For the visitors Valentin Stocker came close when he volleyed an effort towards goal after John Heitinga's long freekick was headed out to the edge of the area. Moments later Salomon Kalou failed to finish after a threatening run towards goal.

Paderborn took the lead as Hertha started to come into the game, a long ball forward saw Meha head the ball towards the penalty spot and a touch off a defender set the ball perfectly for Marvin Bakalorz to hammer his shot past Kraft.

The game went quiet in terms of chances, however their was a good battle between the sides as they both looked very good on the counter attack. Just before the break Hertha managed to get themselves level, Marcel N'Djeng provided a great cross into the area and Kalou was able to get the better of Patrick Ziegler and powerfully head past Lukas Kruse. The home side almost regained the lead at the end of the half, Meha had a freekick in a very dangerous position and after a deflection the ball flew just wide of the post.

Paderborn started the second half very well and it didn't take them long to regain their lead, great work from Jens Wemmer saw him break down the right after his first cross was blocked by Roy Beerens, his second attempt was far better as he found Kachunga and the former 'Gladbach man reacted well to head the ball just inside the post.

The home side made things a lot more comfortable for themselves in the 76th minute, Meha came forward and played a lovely one-two with Kachunga before brilliantly firing his shot into the bottom right corner. It was a fantastic moment for the 28-year-old as it was his first goal in the Bundesliga.

Hertha had a couple of good chances late on, Ronny's freekick found the unmarked Peter Niemeyer as Paderborn were caught out, there was a hint of offside, although it didn't matter in the end as Niemeyer missed the ball completely. Soon after Ronny tried his luck from outside the area and Kruse comfortably watched the effort go wide. Mahir Sağlık came off the bench and almost instantly made it 4-1, Stoppelkamp was able to find him and after a smart turn he was denied by Kraft.

Despite both teams having plenty of shots, not many found the target. Paderborn took their chances well and deservedly took all three points, Hertha were poor throughout the game and struggled to cause problems for Paderborn. Hertha's poor away form continues, today's defeat makes it six away games without a win away from home, five of those have been defeats and one was during the week as they were knocked out of the cup. Paderborn are back to winning ways after last weeks defeat to Hoffenheim, it's a great time to be a Paderborn fan as the new boys move up to 7th place.
