On Sunday, Wolfsburg remained in second place, closing the gap to four points, with convincing 2-0 victory over Hamburg at the Volkswagen Arena just before the international break.

Hamburg did manage a few shots in the first 20 minutes of play as they looked to take a shock lead, however, they fell flat after that as Wolfsburg took command of the match as they deserved the three points at the end of the 90 minutes. Lewis Holtby found Pierre-Michel Lasogga nicely at the top of the box, but his effort missed just to the left of Benaglio's goal, with just five minutes off the clock. Holtby hit a beautiful left-footed shot but Benaglio was up to the challenged as he kept things leveled at zero with a fine save, five minutes later. Finally, Rafael Van Der Vaart had a good look at the Wolfsburg goal, but his shot was blocked and never found its way in.

Even though Valon Behrami did not score on his own goal, the corner he created unfortunately led to the first goal of the match for Wolfsburg. The ensuing corner kick was met by De Bruyne and his initial shot from outside of the box was finished off by Ivica Olic as he gave the home side the early 1-0 lead in the first half, with just 27 minutes off of the clock. The young Belgium was involved early and often and played a key part in today's win. Within the span of a minute, De Bruyne had two decent looks on goal, but his first shot from outside the box was blocked, and the second one, from inside of the box, missed just to the right of the target.

After the goal, Wolfsburg seemed to have more about them. They looked calm on the ball and were able to outplay Hamburg on every part of the pitch. But there was not much action after the goal, just a few half chances from both sides up until the referee blew his whistle for halftime. After the interval, it was much of the same, Hamburg just seemingly ran out of ideas as Wolfsburg were dominating play yet again.Wolfsburg hit Hamburg on the counter, nine minutes after the restart, and Perisic found Olic, but the striker's effort missed to the right of the goal from beyond the eighteen yard box. Three minutes after the hour mark, Woflsburg doubled their lead which would be enough to finish off the match, as De Bruyne was once again in on the action as he found Aaron Hunt in the middle of the box as he burried the ball into the back of the net.
