A solitary goal from defender Burno Soares was enough for Fortuna to return to second place, just three points behind 2.Bundesliga leaders Ingolstadt.

After a 0-0 draw with table-toppers Ingolstadt last Friday, Oliver Reck made a few alterations. Lukas Schmitz, still hurting from his challenge with Danny da Costa, was replaced by Andreas Lambertz; this allowed Axel Bellinghausen to cover at left-back. Sérgio Pinto and Erwin Hoffer also didn't start, as Christian Gartner and Joel Pohjanpalo took their places.

As for 1860 Munich, they finally stopped the rot with an impressive 0-3 win over VfL Bochum; only their third of the season. That was the second win in Markus von Ahlen's reign at the club, and he opted to replace Valdet Rama with Marin Tomasov in the only change from that game. He would have been hopeful of Rubin Okotie carrying on his goal-scoring form, his brace was crucial to his side's victory in the Ruhr valley.

Unfortunately for von Ahlen, their would be no such defensive stability. Just four minutes in, an open and costless Bruno Soares nodded home the opener. After Gartner's delivery, it was inadvertently flicked on for the Brazilian defender, by Okotie, to rise at the back post and send Fortuna into an early lead. It was a completely deserved goal, as Pohjanpalo broke the 1860 line and was twice denied by Stefan Ortega.

The hosts were riding their luck, as Michael Liendl's beautiful, floated cross was met Lambertz charging in at the back post. The ball cannoned off the bar and was just missed by the incoming Finnish forward. When the Lions finally did make their way towards Michael Rensing's goal, they were faced with the seemingly impenetrable wall of Jonathan Tah. The HSV-loanee made a remarkable last ditch challenge from Marius Wolf's teasing cross, while he was aerially superb also.

Okotie finally got on the ball, in a meaningful position, at the beginning of the second-half. The Austrian almost brought the home side level, but Rensing produced a solid save to deny him. There was very little to separate the sides in the following forty-five, with neither able to find any sort of rythym. In fact, 1860 were enjoying the majority of the attacking play; although Daniel Adlung and Tomasov were unable to carve out a meaningful chance.

The visitors held on to secure a vital win and send themselves within touching distance of FC Ingolstadt, though a tough test against Greuther Fürth awaits Reck's men after the international break. 1860 Munich, now sitting fifteenth, will be hoping to bounce back from defeat, when they travel to Union Berlin. A win would be massive, taking them ahead of their hosts and level with 11th placed FSV Frankfurt.
