A Terrence Boyd brace secured a comfortable win for RB Leipzig on Sunday afternoon. Yussuf Poulsen's solo goal opened the scoring, before Boyd headed home a second. Enis Alushi pulled a goal back immediately after the break, but Boyd's emphatic second and John Verhoek's own-goal put the result beyond doubt.

Despite falling to a 1-0 defeat before the international break, Alex Zorniger kept faith with a largely similar side to that which lost in Darmstadt. There was one alteration, however, as Sebastian Heidinger dropped to the bench for captain Daniel Frahn.

As for St. Pauli, there were wholesale changes after a 0-3 defeat to Heidenhem. Philipp Ziereis, Marcel Halstenberg, Christopher Buchtmann and Okan Kurt came into the starting eleven for Sören Gonther, Bernd Nehrig, Ante Budimir and Dennis Daube.

A repeat performance from the previous week looked on the cards, going by the early exchanges. A Yussuf Poulsen header had Philipp Tschauner scrambling across his goal, but thankfully for the visiting 'keeper it drifted just wide. Terrence Boyd and Frahn were causing plenty of trouble, too. The striking trio were only denied by some resolute defending, before Frahn slammed the ball into the side-netting.

The pressure eventually paid off, when Poulsen took it upon himself to open the scoring. The Danish forward picked the ball up on the centrally, he cut inside and out, beating one, two, three and four players with a superb solo run. He composed himself and finished with aplomb, thundering the ball into the net and giving Leipzig the lead they deserved. With that strike, Poulsen notched up his seventh 2.Bundesliga goal of the season.

It was turning into a passing exercise for the hosts, who were barely allowing St. Pauli a touch. The home fans were enjoying every minute of it and were rewarded with a second goal not long after their first. Diego Demme found found on the left-hand side, he made his way towards the by-line and sent over a tempting cross towards Boyd. The American rose highest to head the ball over Tschauner and just over the line, although questions will be asked of the St. Pauli custodian's attempt to claw the ball away.

What should have been a fairly routine half of closing out the game for RB Leipzig, was made much more difficult immediately after the re-start. A lightning quick counter attack allowed Enis Alushi to bundle the ball round Tim Sebastian and then curled the ball past an advancing Fabio Coltorti. However, any hope was misplaced as Leipzig restored their two goal cushion only a matter of minutes later.

It was Boyd who struck again, this time there was nothing Tschauner could do to keep it out. After some head tennis in the visiting box, the ball was like a hot potato, it eventually fell for Boyd. He managed take down the ball, before lashing home a fantastic strike before anyone could react. Like a lazer guided missile into the roof of the net, Leipzig could breathe easy once more.

Chances fell the way of both sides, with Poulsen hitting the upright and John Verhoek having a goal chalked off for offside. The St. Pauli forward would end up scoring, but unfortunately for him it would be in his own net. Sebastian flicked the ball on from a corner, only for the Dutch attacker to be caught off guard and the ball cannoned in off his mid-rift.

The rest of the game was nothing more than a formality, as Leipzig ran down the clock. The win takes Zorniger's side up to fifth and should give them a momentum boost ahead of their trip to Sandhausen next weekend. As for St. Pauli, things go from bad to worse. No win in five, including four defeats, leaves Thomas Meggle's men sitting in the relegation zone. A game against in form Kaiserslautern on Sunday means things don't get any easier for the Hamburg-based team.
