Charlie Benschop gave F95 an early lead only for SpVgg to bounce back via two headers from first Niko Gießelmann and then Robert Zulj. The Espirit Arena faithful thought they'd won it late when Joel Pohjanpalo scored before Benschop netted his second from the penalty spot. However, Austrian Zulj flicked the ball past Lars Unnerstall, almost straight after, to make sure his side got a share of the spoils.

Düsseldorf were forced into a late, late change between the sticks as Michael Rensing pulled out and was replaced by former Schalke man Unnarstall. It was his opposite number, Wolfgang Hesl, who dreadfully gifted the ball to forward Benschop to roll the ball into an empty net which opened the scoring.

The Bavarians replied quickly as Gießelmann headed in from a dangerous freekick from the left to make it 1-1 after just 14 minutes.

Young Finnish striker Joel Pohjanpalo went close for the home side but his first time effort trickled just wide of the post, the attempt prompted a thumbs up from manager Oliver Reck though. The first half fizzled out with Greuter looking the slightly better side.

Barely 10 minutes into the second half, the visitors took the lead. Fortuna failed to clear the ball following two corners and Zulj’s deft, close-range header gave the Fürth the lead.

Some good forward play from Benschop saw him tee up substitute Gartner but his long range effort flew narrowly past the post.

Düsseldorf improved and pushed for an equaliser and were eventually rewarded 14 minutes from time when Bolly, whose pace had been causing problems, crossed for Pohjanpalo to score.

The crowd had barely stopped celebrating when the Finn played a beautiful ball to Benschop who was felled in the box by Hesl, the Dutchman picked himself up to thump in the penalty. The crowd’s ecstasy was soon cut short as astonishingly Zulj slotted in his second of the match getting on a drilled cross from the right.

Both sides sensed blood going into the last few minutes but neither could find the final bit of quality needed to get the three points.
