Neither side could be split on Friday evening, as the defences of both came out on top. It was a game for the footballing purists, although Rouven Sattelmeier and Wolfgang Hesl were exemplary when called upon.

Following the madness that ensued in last weekend's 3-3 draw in Düsseldorf, only one change was made by Martin Kramer. Johannes Wurtz dropped to the bench, with Stephan Schröck taking his place. As for Heidenheim, they were rocked by the news goalkeeper Jan Zimmerman would be out for the foreseeable future with a brain tumour. That meant Rouven Sattelmeier kept his place in goal from their 3-0 win over Sandhausen a week previous, as Frank Schmidt went for the same eleven players who started that game.

Unfortunately the first-half didn't live up to it's billing. While both sides were having shots at goal, the pair could only muster a measly two on target. Such was the lack of excitement, there were more yellow cards than efforts which the goalkeepers had to deal with. Tobias Welz booked Thomas Pledl, Smail Morabit and Florian Niederlechner within nine minutes, with first-half action few and far between.

The second-half began much more promisingly, with Robert Zulj and Marc Schnatterer having efforts on goal. Neither could convert, though the hosts were enjoying the better of any chances that did fall either team's way. Even with Johannes Wurtz and Florian Trinks' introductions, they still couldn't find a way to unlock Heidenheim's defence.

Sattelmeier was called into action late on, with Trinks forcing him into a solid stop, before he punched away the resulting corner. Though that was the way it would finish, with a point being a fair result for both sides. A draw would have suited both before the game, with neither side keen to over-commit through-out.

The point moves Fürth ahead of Bochum into ninth place, just five behind Darmstadt in third. As for Heidenheim, they remain just a single point behind the Lillies, who themselves drew 0-0 with Karlsruher. Heidenheim will host Aalen in a week's time, with Fürth facing a tricky trip to Darmstadt.
