Two goals from Bundesliga top scorer Alexander Meier sent Eintracht Frankfurt on their way to a big 5-2 win at home to SV Werder Bremen. Further goals from Haris Seferović, Stefan Aigner and Marc Stendera gave the host a comfortable win over Bremen. Gebre Selaisse and Luca Caldirola scored for the visitors.

It was a fairly lacklustre opening half an hour at the Commerzbank-Arena, with both sides not creating too many clear cut chances.

The best chance of the game came on the 33rd minute when Takasha Inui met Timothy Chandler's cross with a header that Bremen's goalkeeper Raphael Wolf did superbly to tip on to the post.

It didn't take long after that for Frankurt to take the lead. Just a minute later, Haris  Seferović laid off a ball to Marc Stendera who hit the post, and the Bundesliga top scorer Alexander Meier was there to tap in his ninth of the season.

On the stroke of half time Selassie, who was unmarked, headed home a Zlatko Junuzovic corner to take the teams in level at the break. Seferović nearly put Frankfurt back in front early in to the second half after a knock down from Meier saw him take a shot on the half volley but it went just wide.

Five minutes later Seferović had his name on the scoresheet, somewhat controversially some may say. Inui's cross was put in to the danger zone and Bremen goalkeeper Wolf couldn't handle it and the Swiss striker put the ball in to the net with his knee.

The visitors protested to the referee, arguing Wolf was fouled, but Christian Dingert dismissed the protests. There were chances for both teams with Anderson Bamba and Felix Kroos both coming close to getting on the scoresheet. The impressive Stefan Aigner saw his shot come back off the post but Meier was there to tap in the teams third goal and his tenth league goal of the season.

Aigner nearly made it four soon after but his ambitious overhead kick was easily caught by replacement goalkeeper Richard Strebinger. Some neat build up play down the left hand side presented Caldirola the ball, which he cooly side footed home to make it 4-2 and give the visitors some of hope of getting back in to the game.

Those hopes of a comeback were quickly gone as a minute later, Marc Stendera hit a beautiful half volley in to the top right corner of the goal and make it 5-2 with ten minutes to play. Junuzovic nearly pulled another goal back for the struggling Bremen side but his header came back off the crossbar in added time.

Frankfurt's third win in a row sees them move up to seventh, just two points off fourth placed Bayer Leverkusen. Defeat for Bremen leaves them in 17th, just one point ahead of bottom side Stuttgart. Frankfurt travel to 1899 Hoffenheim next week while Werder Bremen play host to Hannover 96.
