Despite taking the lead through Ciro Immobile in the second-half, many chances went begging for BVB and they were punished late on. Aleksandar Mitrovic's powerful header took the shine, and three points, off of an otherwise impressive home performance. Though it mattered little, as Borussia Dortmund topped Group D with the draw.

Dortmund finally managed to out of the relegation zone with an impressive 1-0 win over Hoffenheim and, if anything, it could easily have been more. There was much debate as to whether Mitchell Langerak would remain in goal, but Jürgen Klopp stuck to his guns and the Aussie stopper kept his place. Erik Durm and Matthias Ginter returned to the starting line-up in place of Lukas Piszczek and Mats Hummels, while Nuri Sahin started his first game of the season. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Adrian Ramos and Sven Bender dropped out and Kevin Großkreutz, Shinji Kagawa and Ciro Immobile regain a starting place.

Besnik Hasi was tasked with picking his side up from a disappointing 4-2 defeat at the weekend. Even though competition was hotting up domestically, this game was a dead rubber for Anderlecht. They'd already secured third place and couldn't challenge BVB or Arsenal for the top two spots, so pride was all that was at stake. Fabrice N'Sakala, Leander Dendoncker and Aleksandar Mitrovic came in for Nathan Kabasele, Youri Tielemans and Cyriac, with Steven Defour out thanks to a calf problem.

The home side were on it from the off, some excellent build-up play allowed Immobile to get a shot off, but a combination of Silvio Proto and Anthony Vanden Borre denied the Italian an early opener. Though they soon had Langerak to thank, however, as he produced a fine from a Mitrovic; the Serbian broke Dortmund's defensive line, but the goalkeeper stood strong and shut him out. Despite the home side having the majority of possession, Ibrahima Conte and Frank Acheampong were providing a very real counter-attacking threat.

Proto was having a busy night and the saves he was making were top-notch. A fine reflex stop denied Kagawa, Immobile was denied by a smart stop and then Henrikh Mkhitaryan had his one-on-one attempt parried to safety. That wasn't to say that Anderlecht were no threat; Conte could have played through Mitrovic, but the final ball was lacking. The Belgians had a great chance to open the scoring just before the break, though Sacha Kljestan couldn't keep his volley down after a lovely cushioned header from Mitrovic.

Dortmund continued their dominance into the second-half, with Mkhitaryan and Immobile unable to take their early chances. The pressure would soon tell, as Nuri Sahin earned a returning assist. A driving run from the Turk, into a huge gap in front of the visiting defence, was not closed down and he took full advantage. Sahin slipped Immobile through with a delicate pass, as the striker touched it past the Anderlecht slide tackles and curled home an unstoppable shot. It was his fourth goal in the Champions League and it was nothing short of what he, and BVB, deserved.

Oliver Kirch also returned to action in the second half. The midfielder had been out for some time and he replaced Ilkay Gündogan, as both player received warm applause from the BVB fans. The substitution didn't have any effect on the attacking play of Dortmund, who continued to force Proto into a fine array of saves. Mkhitaryan and Immobile's battle with the Belgian shot-stopper was never ending duel and, even though he'd been beaten once, he continued his defiance towards the dominance.

Although BVB were cruising, Anderlecht did pull a goal back. Anthony Vanden Borre put in the most perfect ball for Mitrovic, who was finally able to take his chance. The striker rose above Großkreutz and powered his header past a helpless Langerak from six yards out. The striker couldn't miss, but it was clear to see how important the goal was for players, supporters and coaches alike. The Belgian side couldn't push on from the late strike, as Dortmund played down the time and held out for the draw.

The solitary point meant that Dortmund topped Group D, with Arsenal having to settle for second place. The Londoners beat Galatasary 1-4, but they needed a six goal swing to topple the Westphalians. Despite that they still advanced into the next round with BVB. Anderlecht's fate was sealed before kick-off, although this performance will have done wonders for their confidence and they'll be keen to put on a similar showing in the Europa League.
