After a routine 3-0 win over CSKA Moscow, Bayern Munich topped their group with ease, something that pleased all involved.

Sebastian Rode: “Your first goal in the Champions League is obviously a bit special, but at the end of the day all that matters is that we won."

Pep Guardiola, Bayern coach, complimented a great team performance, “I’m very proud of the whole squad. We’ve been outstanding in the group phase. We’ve only lost one match and we’ve been better than our opponents in every game." He commented, with the professionalism of his squad a particularly pleasing aspect of the game, "We took it very seriously today and all my players did very well. Congratulations! We now need to recover in time for our remaining games.”

The returning Bastian Schweinsteiger was also happy, yet he recognised there bigger things to come, “I’m delighted we’ve won. We dominated the game but it wasn’t easy. We’ve hit our target. That’s the most important thing, but the really big games lie ahead of us.”

Arjen Robben's introduction changed the game for the hosts and the Dutchman knew it was a deserved three points: “CSKA didn’t do very much, they weren’t at all positive, they pulled everyone back and waited to hit us on the break. We had total control over the game. If we’d seen our moves through to the end a little better in the second half, we’d have scored a couple more goals. But it was fun. It was a tough group but all credit to the team because we’ve done well."

Sebastian Rode, who notched up his first European goal, concentrated on the next round. The summer signing has made a huge impression in recent games and looks to be a ready-made Schweinsteiger replacement, “Your first goal in the Champions League is obviously a bit special, but at the end of the day all that matters is that we won. CSKA dropped very deep most of the time, sometimes right on the edge of their own box." Though he knew it wasn't the perfect performance, "We missed a few chances and could have won by more, but we’ve finished first and we’ve hit our target. Let’s wait and see who we get in the draw.”
