The home side had the first opportunity of the match with just five minutes gone as Seung-Woo Ryu headed the ball from inside of the box, but his header fell straight into the hands of Union goalkeeper Daniel Haas. Raffael Korte had an effort from long range, however, the ball missed the target completely. Union had their first chance after 13 minutes as Sebastian Polter had a go from inside eighteen yards, in the end though, it was not a very good effort as it caught easily by Rafal Gikiewicz.

Braunschweig would get on the board first, as they controlled the early part of the match with Seung-Woo Ryu finding the back of the net with a neat finish after 22 minutes. The next opportunity for the visitors would come six minutes later and would be the equalizing goal, as well as the last goal of the afternoon, with Maxi Thiei getting on the score sheet. There would not be many chances after the goal in the first half, except for a go from Havard Nielsen, but the ball went calmly into the hands of Haas in the 35th minute of play.

As the second half was starting to unfold, you can sense that the visitors just did not look like they were ever going to score again in this match as Braunschweig controlled a majority of the possession. In fact, they had a couple of half-chances that never came into fruition, unfortunately. Mirko Boland had a header that was saved very easily by Haas, nine minutes after the restart. Korte got into a decent position, with less than twenty minutes to go, his shot, though, did not even trouble the Union goalkeeper.

The last chance for Union Berlin would come in the 85th minute of play as Michael Parensen’s header completely missed the target, which really was the story of this match when the dust finally cleared. Both sides had the opportunity to get a few goals and try to win all three points, but neither side had were able to come through when it mattered most.
