Bottom of the Bundesliga Werder Bremen are apparently interested in bringing the American striker to Germany.

Reports from the North East of England suggest that manager Gus Poyet is keen to offload the striker and wants to bring in a fresh forward. It's said that off-loading Altidore will costless up wages and the funds to sign someone that could help Sunderland out of their predicament in the Premier League.

However, Bremen are said to be looking at a loan deal with a view to a permanent switch. Sunderland want the American to leave and the asking price of £7million is said to be scaring off other potential suitors, most notably French side Lille.

Why Viktor Skrypnyk wants a striker is somewhat confusing, as Davie Selke and Franco di Santo (currently injured) have scored at regular intervals. Even youngster Melvyn Lorenzen scored at the weekend, Zlatko Junuzovic is netting costless-kicks with frightening regularity and the main problems seem to lie in defence.

Only five teams have scored more than Werder this season, but they've conceded five more goals than any other side. A tough test awaits in their final game of 2014, as Borussia Dortmund come to the Weserstadion desperate to pick up points and rise from their lowly position.
