Former-Chelsea striker and Champions League winner Salomon Kalou has been fined by current club, Hertha Berlin after going on strike.

Sporting Director, Michael Preetz fined the Ivorian striker 5000 euros.

Kalou, 29 had complained to German newspaper, Bild; threatening to leave the club, who are sitting in 13th: “I think I should be treated better as a player, but that is my humble opinion.

“I think if you get a great player, you should build his team around him.

“If I can’t do that here, then I’m moving on. I think with what I’ve achieved in my career, I can play in any team.”

The striker then told the club’s official website: “I am frustrated when I cannot help. I was annoyed that I was an unused substitute [against Eintracht Frankfurt].

“I made the mistake of letting the emotion and frustration out. I’m sorry, that was not good.”

Preetz responded by stating: “You do not get a place in the team through words, but through performance.”

Following his move for an undisclosed fee from LOSC Lille, Kalou has gone on to score five goals in seven appearances this season for Hertha Berlin.
