Werder Bremen's Elijero Elia has allegedly been singled out by Ronald Koeman as a January transfer target, according to the Daily Mirror.

The twenty-seven year old started his senior career at ADO Den Haag before securing a move to Twente in 2007. After two years at Twente, the Dutch international was on the move again, this time to Hamburg in a €8.5 million deal. After a strong first season Elia was linked with numerous clubs around Europe including Juventus. After two more seasons, Juventus announced the signing of the winger for €9 million.

Things never worked out in Italy for Elia, who made just four appearances in total for the Turin club. Werder Bremen offered Elia the chance to revive his career back in Germany, where he ultimately kicked his career off and gained the big money move to one of Europe's elite. Elia agreed to a four year contract at the WeserStadion in the summer of 2012.

His first season back in Germany proved rather troublesome as he and then teammate Marko Arnautovic were both suspended after two separate speeding incidents. Elia would knock the past season on the head in the 2013/14 season where he made thirty-three appearances and scored three goals.

Elia would be available for a fee in and around the £4 million mark. A fee very much affordable for the Saints who made big money in the summer with the sales of Luke Shaw, Dejan Lovren, Rickie Lambert and Calum Chambers respectively.
