Schalke 04 have today confirmed they have agreed an extension with Klaas-Jan Huntelaar who looks set to remain at the Veltins Arena until 2017.

The Bundesliga side also have the option of agreeing another year should both parties agree to do so.

Huntelaar’s contract was due to run out at the end of the current season. However, the Gelsenkirchen side have confirmed that the Dutch international has put pen to paper to keep him in Germany.

The 31-year old has been a hit at Schalke since his €14 million switch from Serie A side AC Milan in 2010, where he had spent one season after a stint at Real Madrid.

Huntelaar has been in fine form this season as Schalke currently sit fifth in the Bundesliga. The Striker, who travelled to Brazil as part of the Netherlands World Cup squad has found the goal on seven occasions this season in 15 league appearances, forming a lethal partnership with Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.

The signature ends speculation that he could move away from the club, with Arsenal and Liverpool both interested.
