The former-Bayern Munich defender has returned to his homeland and Sao Paulo, he confirmed.

The Brazilian centre-back had been sentenced to three years and nine months in prison by a German court in July 2012, after he set fire to his own home. Bayern allowed him to work as a youth coach, as part of a day release programme, but he been granted parole on good behaviour and will now return to Brazil. Sao Paulo is his destination, with the club reported to have given him both financial and emotional support during the ordeal.

"I am very happy to return home. Now I just want to think positively and look forward, because I want to help Sao Paulo win trophies," said Breno, who left the Brazilian side for Bavaria in 2008.

"Even from afar, I always followed the club via the internet. I would log on to sites to see how the team was doing in the league or whether they had injuries or suspensions, because I never failed to follow Sao Paulo.

"Sao Paulo have always supported me. Even in the most difficult times, the people at the club were supporting me. And that continues today. The affection that the club has for me is the same that I have for them."
