The home side bounced back from 2 consecutive draws, as Naldo once again was the hero scoring the winner in the 78th minute whilst Köln has well and truly left their famous victory at Schalke behind and will be disappointed after they took the lead in the game.

Köln’s Dominic Maroh got the first goal of the game and was clearly disappointed with the final result. “I’m finding it difficult to explain the reasons for our defeat. Obviously you can’t keep a side that has five or six top attacking players like Wolfsburg at bay throughout the full 90 minutes”. He clearly thought his side were unlucky with the result; “We played well but we were still beaten twice”.

Wolfsburg first goal came from Dutch striker Bas Dost and after the game he was clearly delighted with the result but still gave the opposition credit; “We had to be very patient today. We were disappointed after conceding the goal and perhaps we were a bit tired, but we managed to come back and thankfully Naldo was able to get the winner”.

He was in no doubt about the strengths of his team; “We have a lot of tall guys in the team and Kevin (De Bruyne) has a good delivery. Naldo is a great goalscorer and he finished it well. At the start of the second, nobody would have said we’d be where we are, so we couldn’t have asked for more”.

Köln keeper Timo Horn reflected the views of his teammate Maroh when he said; “With a bit of luck we’d taken a point. We gave it everything and you can’t criticise the team at all, but Wolfsburg have a lot of quality especially in the air. We defended well but made two mistakes which proved costly”.
